Jasudben ML School and Bloomingdales Pre-Primary celebrated Children’s day filled with fun activities, love and laughter https://jmlschool.org/childrens-day-2022/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=childrens-day-2022 Sun, 20 Nov 2022 05:25:36 +0000 https://jmlschool.org/?p=10064

A country’s greatest wealth is its children.  Chacha Nehru rightly said, “The children of today will make the India of tomorrow.” And, to commemorate the birth anniversary of India’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the nation celebrates Children’s Day on 14th November every year with great pomp and raises awareness on children’s education and their rights. This year, on the occasion of Children’s Day, Jasudben ML school and Bloomingdales Pre-Primary came together and planned various fun-filled activities for the students with a special “no books” day added to the list.

Students from Pre-Primary to class VII attended the school in civilian clothes of their choice, skipping their uniforms for the day. With several engaging, entertaining and joyous activities planned days ahead, the school was successful in making  the day a memorable one for the students.

The Pre-Primary section was seen enjoying a train ride and a wonderful bouncy castle was also set up for these little ones. A popular children’s folktale from, Aesop’s fable, of  ‘The Lion and the mouse’ was enacted by the teachers through a shadow puppet show. Apart from that, nursery children too were found engrossed in playing fun games, dancing their hearts out and enjoying the rides, and they were also given a medal as a takeaway.

Playschool children also received some temporary tattoos that were drawn by the teachers. The teachers also shared some stories about Chacha Nehru with the children. The students even got a shaker toy made by the teachers out of paper cups that the students themselves had previously painted, as a takeaway gift.

The teachers of the primary section performed a spectacular dance performance where they danced to the songs that the students have been dancing to in school, which brought a smile to the faces of those little ones. To express their excitement, the students even stood up and danced along with the teachers to the steps they were taught earlier. Students were also shown movies in their classrooms which they enjoyed thoroughly and later chocolate muffins were handed out to them.

As for the secondary section students, starting from classes 5 to 10, they were seen playing a few interesting games and watching popular movies suitable for young and adventurous minds. Movies like Baby’s Day Out were screened for the primary section, while Coco, Soul, Home Alone, and some other new films released this month, like Enola Holmes 2, and so on were shown to the students of higher classes. The teachers also prepared a bulletin board right outside their classrooms holding up a chart with the topic, “It’s cool to be a kid: Tell us why?”. Students gathered around and expressed their beautiful thoughts and feelings on this by writing on the chart. As a token of love from the teachers, all the students received a chocolate chip brownie.

Moreover, students of the 11th and 12th grades were told they would be having their English test that morning.. Imagine their surprise when they were told to board a bus that would take them to Movietime Suburbia instead. . Their happiness knew no bounds when they found out that they were about to watch one of the newly released Marvel movies, Black Panther 2 – a perfect film for the students on Children’s Day.

By celebrating crucial occasions and dates in the calendar, JML School and Bloomingdales Pre-Primary strive to contribute to an all-around holistic development and growth of their students beyond the classroom walls, invigorating them to become better citizens of the world.

(Jasudben ML School and Bloomingdales Pre-Primary made donations to make everyone’s Diwali truly happy.)

As Mother Teresa rightly said, “There is a no bigger show of compassion than giving.” To develop compassion in the hearts of the students and instil the importance of giving back to society, Jasudben ML School and Bloomingdales Pre-primary have begun a week-long Toy donation drive as part of their Diwali celebration this year.

To mark the beginning of the festival of lights, the school believes in helping and reaching out to the less fortunate children who long only for some love and happiness. Jasudben ML School has chosen the theme #HappyAtSchool for this year to teach students how to spread happiness and positivity,  which will in turn make them happy at school. Apart from that, the school is inculcating moral values such as “Sharing is Caring” by conducting donation drives.

In partnership with Hamleys, one of the largest toy stores in the world, the school plans on donating the collected toys to less privileged children to brighten up their Diwali. All the collected toys will be handed over to ST. JUDE India Child Care and Reliance Foundation. Students from the pre-primary section up to the 12th standard have collected over 900 toys, with over 400 students donating them to the cause. In return, Hamleys will provide a Certificate of appreciation to each child to acknowledge their support towards these children.

Not just that, the students, teachers, principal and staff donated gently used, pre-loved sarees to the tribal women of Aarey through Nazareth Foundation (The Tribal Tadka). Apart from the toy donation, the pre-primary school has also donated two books and a cupcake to each child of Lions Juhu Center for Children in Need of Special Care as a part of the ‘Joy of Giving’ week. Whereas, the students of Playschool and Nursery donated art materials to Advitya School and the  Jr. KG  students donated the same to a school run by YMCA, Bandra

Animal care and well-being is a cause very close to the principal’s heart as she is an avid animal lover herself. She believes in Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy that says, “the true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members’. The Principal along with the students from grades V-VIII have raised and donated approximately Rs 40,000/- towards the ‘Hands that Heal Animal Care Foundation’ which is a shelter for injured and destitute animals.

Mrs. Damayanti Bhattacharya, Principal of JML School, said, “The success of these contributions is due to the participation of every student in the school. We are always instructing our students against the frivolous use of things and to donate to the needy and less fortunate… And witnessing my students taking part in this donation drive gives me immense joy. The festive season is all about bringing and giving happiness to others and spreading festive cheers all along. And we need to remember that we can get pure joy and happiness only when we interact and engage with the intent of helping and caring for someone. The donation program garnered a great response from the students and also from the parents and even the recipients were thankful and happy. JML School will continue with such acts of generosity on a yearly basis.”

For the intra-school activities, on the occasion of Diwali, the teachers of the playschool and nursery students will perform a short skit on the positive ways to celebrate Diwali and the negative effects of firecrackers. The celebration highlights Diwali, as a festival of lights and that it can be celebrated without causing pollution or harm to the environment. As for the primary students, they will come dressed in coloured clothes instead of their usual uniforms and partake in a potluck in their class as well as Diya-making activities.

Jasudben ML School and Bloomingdales Pre-Primary conducted ACK Storytelling competition for grades 1 to 4 https://jmlschool.org/jasudben-ml-school-and-bloomingdales-pre-primary-conducted-ack-storytelling-competition-for-grades-1-to-4/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=jasudben-ml-school-and-bloomingdales-pre-primary-conducted-ack-storytelling-competition-for-grades-1-to-4 Sat, 15 Oct 2022 07:28:09 +0000 https://jmlschool.org/?p=9802

“A story can imbibe the right value in the most impressionable age”. In the quest to promote academic excellence and encourage students to explore the magical world of stories, and build their oratory skills, Jasudben M. L. School, Khar and Bloomingdales Pre-Primary organized a first-of-its-kind inter-house storytelling competition for the primary section on 07th October 2022 based on ‘Amar Chitra Katha’ comics. Incidentally, the school has tied up with ACK to conduct an in-curriculum, storytelling-based value enrichment program for students of grades I to IV to teach moral and ethical values to students through interactive stories.

ACK is a comic series that Mr. Anant Pai started in an attempt to teach Indian children about their cultural heritage. Comics like Krishna, Shakuntala, Chanakya, and Buddha are all a part of ACK.

From kids to teens to adults everyone enjoys stories and it is easy to grasp concepts through stories. Stories always capture attention and attract the audience. Storytelling is an art which boosts a lot of personality development skills such as self-confidence, body language, expression, creativity, and knowledge. It sharpens students’ memory by developing cognition. When images or any digital art is involved in storytelling, it stays in memory for a longer duration. To help students imbibe all these qualities through impactful storytelling for their future growth, the school conducted this amazing competition. Students were allowed to narrate a moral-based story from ACK or one from the Tinkle comics. The students participated with tremendous effort to make this event a successful one. The stories that they narrated concluded with a moral, highlighting the important values of life. And these young storytellers used a variety of props and costumes to make their stories come to life.

The judges were teachers from the school and the stories were judged based on content, fluency and expression. The little storytellers enchanted everyone with their stellar performances. The time limit for the story was a minimum of 2 minutes and a maximum of 2.5 minutes. Parents were permitted to edit the story to make it shorter or longer to fit the time limit. They could also make changes to the story that their children would narrate. The whole event was thoroughly enjoyed by the audience.

Neha Srivastava, Headmistress of Jasudben ML, Primary Section said, “The ACK storytelling competition is an ingenious way to boost confidence in public speaking. For a young child to present a story to a larger audience, while making it entertaining, will surely go a long way in their development. Kids enjoyed the stories and also learned Indian Mythology in a fun way. We are happy with the way they got the chance to narrate the story using props and costumes.”

Shachii Manik, Co-ordinator President’s Office (One of the judges) said, “The little storytellers showed perseverance, grit, creativity, and practice; and at the end of the day, their stories doled out so many valuable messages – those that form the essence of remaining a good human being amidst our fast-changing world. It truly reflected the vision of our school, which is to instil traditional values along with contemporary thought.”

Jasudben ML School and Bloomingdales Pre-Primary celebrated Grandparents Day with students and their grandparents https://jmlschool.org/jasudben-ml-school-and-bloomingdales-pre-primary-celebrated-grandparents-day-with-students-and-their-grandparents/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=jasudben-ml-school-and-bloomingdales-pre-primary-celebrated-grandparents-day-with-students-and-their-grandparents Wed, 28 Sep 2022 08:19:06 +0000 https://jmlschool.org/?p=9596

With this year’s Grandparents Day falling on 11th September, a Sunday, Jasudben ML School (JML) and Bloomingdales Pre-Primary celebrated the occasion on Monday, 12th September. To mark this important day, the school invited the grandparents of students from Pre-Primary up to the fourth grade for a day of fun-filled activities and bonding. The school with this celebration wanted to honour the contribution of grandparents to children’s life. It was a heart-warming day with teachers and students along with grandparents coming together to celebrate the little joys of life and love.

The celebration of Grandparent’s Day was also in line with the school’s underlying theme this year #HappyAtSchool. A year marked to celebrate human bonds and the joy of being together.

JML School and Bloomingdales Pre-Primary never miss celebrating Grandparents Day each year. In fact, even during the Coronavirus pandemic, the school took to a virtual celebration on Zoom. This year marks JML’s first offline celebration after two years of the pandemic-induced lockdown. And in order to make it extra special, the school invited its students’ grandparents to interact and spend quality time with them.

From singing songs, sharing jokes and cooking recipes to performing magic tricks, the day witnessed grandparents engage in a wide range of fun activities that were much enjoyed by the children. The grandparents also narrated stories from history and mythology as well as anecdotes of their experiences, which serve as learning aids and impart core moral values with a modern twist. Besides these activities, they sketched and played games and puzzles with their nursery and playgroup grandchildren, making for a celebration that truly strengthened their bond.

Feeling emotional and nostalgic herself, Mrs Damayanti Bhattacharya, the Principal of Jasudben ML School and Bloomingdales Pre-Primary, mentioned, “Children generally spend time with their grandparents when their parents are busy at work. However, they often tend to cease doing so after a certain age. The truth is that grandparents preserve the home’s deep-rooted history and past. They are a treasure trove of learnings, experiences, moral principles, and so much more that they instil in us as we grow. I personally have a number of pleasant memories with my maternal grandmother. And to celebrate this unique relationship we share with them and to express how much we value them, we at JML School organized this special day for our children and their grandparents.”

She further added, “It was heartening to see grandparents shed a few layers of their age and gain a renewed vigour as they spent time with their grandchildren.”

By celebrating important dates and occasions in the calendar, JML School and Bloomingdales Pre-Primary endeavours contribute to an all-around holistic growth and development of their students beyond the classroom walls, empowering them to become better citizens of the world.

Students from Jasudben ML School visit the National Association for the Blind; collect funds to make a donation https://jmlschool.org/students-from-jasudben-ml-school-visit-the-national-association-for-the-blind-collect-funds-to-make-a-donation/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=students-from-jasudben-ml-school-visit-the-national-association-for-the-blind-collect-funds-to-make-a-donation Tue, 27 Sep 2022 07:14:47 +0000 https://jmlschool.org/?p=9641

The renowned ICSE school in Khar, Jasudben ML School, is known for its commitment to social participation and societal responsibility. The school believes in teaching its students to give back to society and fostering the ‘Art of Giving’ in their students. In view of this, the grade IV students from Jasudben ML School and Bloomingdales Pre-Primary visited The National Association for the Blind (NAB), located in Worli, Mumbai.

Children at this age are extremely sensitive to what they hear, see, and feel. Bloomingdales Pre-Primary always aims to instil in children the idea that they should be grateful for what they have and learn to be content. At this age, children may truly acquire moral lessons like the importance of helping others, kindness and sharing, and Jasudben ML and Bloomingdales Pre-Primary is doing an excellent job of fostering these values in its students. Prior to visiting NAB, videos were shown to the students to sensitize them and to give them some knowledge of NAB and their work. The primary students raised around Rs. 38,940 as a donation towards NAB.

While at the NAB, grade IV students of Jasudben ML School visited the “Talking Book Center”, where books are recorded as audiobooks for the benefit of students who are blind. These recordings are created in a variety of languages, including English, Marathi, and Hindi. One of the teachers also explained how the blind use the red and white sticks. They were shown how Braille books are made. The blind students attend NAB for training but complete their academic work at other institutions.

Afterwards, students had the chance to talk to the blind students. The NAB students entertained students of JML School, by playing the piano, reading a passage in Braille from one of their books, solving math problems, and other activities, while JML students sang songs and read poetry to them.

Khunda Khopade, Manager of the Department of finance raising committee at the National Association for the Blind, said, “All the JML school students are extremely well-behaved and well-mannered. This is a very special day for our visually impaired students because the first time sighted students performed for them. They all were very happy and surprised by the performance. Thank you Jasudben ML School & Bloomingdales Pre-Primary for this wonderful initiative”

Mrs Neha Srivastava, Headmistress of Primary – Jasudben ML School, said, “The moment we stepped into the school, the warmth and vitality of the youngsters surrounded us. Whether it was their music, reading, math or writing class or the divine moments shared in the assembly hall, every moment highlighted their complete involvement and robust enthusiasm in executing their duties, accompanied by a smile on their lips. The dedication of the administration and the teachers of the school was personified when we witnessed individual attention being administered to every child in the school. The morning spent with them brought a ray of light into our lives and the experience we encountered there, made us believe that no matter what challenges life throws upon us, move ahead in life with faith, the heart within and God overhead.”

For the kids of JMLand Bloomingdales, it was a wonderful learning opportunity that increased their awareness of the challenges that differently-abled children endure. Additionally, the primary students of the school collected money, which was later donated to NAB.

In our endeavour to instil in our students empathy and caring for those who are differently abled, our class IV students recently visited the National Association for the Blind (NAB). While there they were shown how books in Braille are made, and how audiobooks are recorded they were also told the significance of the red and white stick so we see the blind using. A few of our students had prepared a song and poetry for the students of NAB and some of their students also surprised us with their performances on the piano, reading from a Braille book and solving Math problems to name a few. Our students were truly touched by their experience.
