Jasudben ML School and Bloomingdales Pre-Primary celebrated Grandparents Day with students and their grandparents

With this year’s Grandparents Day falling on 11th September, a Sunday, Jasudben ML School (JML) and Bloomingdales Pre-Primary celebrated the occasion on Monday, 12th September. To mark this important day, the school invited the grandparents of students from Pre-Primary up to the fourth grade for a day of fun-filled activities and bonding. The school with this celebration wanted to honour the contribution of grandparents to children’s life. It was a heart-warming day with teachers and students along with grandparents coming together to celebrate the little joys of life and love.

The celebration of Grandparent’s Day was also in line with the school’s underlying theme this year #HappyAtSchool. A year marked to celebrate human bonds and the joy of being together.

JML School and Bloomingdales Pre-Primary never miss celebrating Grandparents Day each year. In fact, even during the Coronavirus pandemic, the school took to a virtual celebration on Zoom. This year marks JML’s first offline celebration after two years of the pandemic-induced lockdown. And in order to make it extra special, the school invited its students’ grandparents to interact and spend quality time with them.

From singing songs, sharing jokes and cooking recipes to performing magic tricks, the day witnessed grandparents engage in a wide range of fun activities that were much enjoyed by the children. The grandparents also narrated stories from history and mythology as well as anecdotes of their experiences, which serve as learning aids and impart core moral values with a modern twist. Besides these activities, they sketched and played games and puzzles with their nursery and playgroup grandchildren, making for a celebration that truly strengthened their bond.

Feeling emotional and nostalgic herself, Mrs Damayanti Bhattacharya, the Principal of Jasudben ML School and Bloomingdales Pre-Primary, mentioned, “Children generally spend time with their grandparents when their parents are busy at work. However, they often tend to cease doing so after a certain age. The truth is that grandparents preserve the home’s deep-rooted history and past. They are a treasure trove of learnings, experiences, moral principles, and so much more that they instil in us as we grow. I personally have a number of pleasant memories with my maternal grandmother. And to celebrate this unique relationship we share with them and to express how much we value them, we at JML School organized this special day for our children and their grandparents.”

She further added, “It was heartening to see grandparents shed a few layers of their age and gain a renewed vigour as they spent time with their grandchildren.”

By celebrating important dates and occasions in the calendar, JML School and Bloomingdales Pre-Primary endeavours contribute to an all-around holistic growth and development of their students beyond the classroom walls, empowering them to become better citizens of the world.
